Matt Smith is no stranger to the Midget AAA hockey ranks.  Smith coached the South Shore Dynamos U16 team from 2004-2006.  The Dynamos won the Mass Tier 1 State Championship two years in a row and represented Massachusetts at the National Tournament in 2005 and 2006.  In 2006 the Dynamos lost in the quarter-finals to the New Jersey Devils in triple overtime.  It was the furthest a Massachusetts U16 team has ever advanced in the National Tournament.  Smith who is the current assistant coach at Catholic Memorial High School under legendary head coach Bill Hanson has also been a scout for the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL for the past three years.  Matt also was a part time scout for the New York Islanders for the 2006-2007 season.

Matt, was the 1990 Boston Globe and Hockey Night in Boston Player of the year, New England Defenseman of the year, Catholic Conference MVP, and member of the Boston Herald Dream Team.  Matt went on to play for the University of Wisconsin for a year before a two year junior stint which took him to the Victoria Cougars of the WHL and the Ft. McMurray Oil Barons of the AJHL.

Smith said he is thrilled to be taking the leap into the Midget AAA ranks with his good friend Bobby Kinsella. "Our player development model will be one of the top in North America, we will develop the whole player: physically, mentally and athletically."

"Bobby and I have always wanted to work together.  We have coached a lot of talented kids in various parts of our coaching careers (click here for our alumni list ) and we both feel there are a lot of hockey players that will do whatever it takes to get themselves to the next level.  Whether that is juniors or college, we want to provide a program that will help them reach their goals."

Matt currently resides in Abington, MA. with his wife Amy and their son Cam.  Matt and Amy are expecting their second child in July.
