BILLET INFORMATION
The Boston Jr. Rangers will be recruiting the best players from around the country to play for our program at an Elite Level. This is where billet families enter into the picture. Each player is placed with a family from the community and spends the entire hockey season with them. Billet parents are called upon to provide more than simply a bed to sleep in. They are expected to provide a home away from home including the provision of nutritional family type meals and other supports when required. But above all else they are to ensure that the player feels at home and a part of their family.
The billeting concept is something of a hockey tradition, and is especially important at the Midget and Junior level of hockey. It involves host families opening their homes to out-of-state or out-of-country players, and provides an opportunity for these young men to pursue the next step in their developing hockey careers. The billet programs also allows some individuals to complete high school educations, take college preparatory classes, and pursue part-time employment in the local community.
During this time bonding takes place among the entire family. In turn, lasting relationships are forged. The billet home becomes a player's second home and the community becomes a second hometown. Billeting is a very rewarding experience and the overwhelming joy a family receives from opening their hearts and homes to a fine young man who is trying to achieve his dream of playing at the next level.
Billet families are considered a very important part of the Boston Jr. Rangers Hockey Program.
